Rusty Metal Treatment
General Description
NO-RUST 5 is a fast-acting, acid-type compound that is formulated specifically for converting corroded steel surfaces into a passive substrate suitable for application of a primer and final paint coating. Through chemical action, NO-RUST 5 converts the rust (iron oxide) on a steel surface into a film of ferric / zinc phosphate and ferric tannate which firmly adheres to the steel providing a perfect base for most paints. Rusty metal or new metal treated with NO-RUST 5 provides a tenacious film on the metal that provides an excellent base for most paints.
Application
- Degrease the metal surface and brush away or chip-off loose rust and scale using a pressure washer or other suitable cleaning method.
- Remove any excess water that may dilute the chemical. Apply product by brushing, pouring, or spraying to throughly wet the surface. Special care should be taken when spraying not to over spray onto foliage or painted surfaces. Do not spray in high winds. Use low pressure sprayer.
- Allow the surface to dry at least 12 hours. Repeat application if needed to fully convert all remaining rust.
- After 12 hours, rinse surface to remove any remaining acid residues. A mixture of bicarbonate soda and water can be used to neutralize rinse water.
- Allow surface to dry at least one hour before painting.
